Here are some suggestions for how to keep your suitcase smelling great if you don’t have a potpourri-filled sachet to pack:
-
Bounce sheets. Vamp Jane sent me this suggestion, and I find Bounce (or other dryer sheets) work especially well in combating stinky-shoe smells. I pack my sneakers in a separate plastic bag with a dryer sheet.
-
Linen paper. Save extra pieces of the same linen paper you use to line your closet to pack for long trips.
-
A mismatched sock (or other rag) can be sprayed with your favorite perfume, room spray, or linen water and tucked away inside your suitcase.
-
Dried mint or lavender tied inside of cheese cloth can be transformed into your own little travel sachet.
Remember that the best way to avoid travel funk in your suitcase is not to pack wet items! Be sure to bring a couple of extra plastic bags to wrap wet things in separately when it’s time to leave in case some things still aren’t dry.
