Fondue Party
February is a great time of year to host a dinner party since most of us want to be inside with the miserable weather anyway. Fondue is comforting on a cold night and the very act of eating it is social, so it’s great for a group of good friends or people you’re getting to know better. Most fondue sets come with six-to-eight serving forks, so the party caps itself. Here are some serving suggestions, as well as hosting suggestions.
Serving Suggestions:
In addition to serving cheese fondue in a fondue pot with bread, fruit, and vegetables, offer a beef version. Start with 1 – 2 pounds of beef fillet, fat removed and cut into bite-sized cubes. Sear the beef (cook each side in a frying pan coated with hot oil so that it’s cooked on the outside and tender on the inside) and serve with dipping sauces of your choice. Our recommendations? Béarnaise, horseradish sauce, and barbeque sauce.
Looking for something else to serve? Think finger foods or easy-to-eat apps, so you don’t have to busy a plate with a fondue fork and conventional silverware.
Martha suggested a Reisling-kirsch cocktail served with dried cherries in it, which is delicious. Want something simpler? Either white or red wine complements the meal nicely.
Hosting Suggestions:
Why not make a whole ‘70s themed evening out of it? Ask your guests to don their favorite ‘70s outfit, vacuum the shag carpet, play some Bee Gees records, and break out Clue.
