Book Club
The nice thing about book clubs is that they’re really shaped by the people who are in them. I’ll share what we’ve done for ours, but the rules are loose, so just have fun with it.
Vamp Katie and I live a couple blocks away from each other, so we decided to create a “neighborhood” book club, inviting friends we have who live within walking distance from us. We figure it’ll be easier to keep the commitment even in this cold weather if we don’t have far to go! We each invited a couple of friends and asked them to invite a couple friends or neighbors so we have the opportunity to meet some new people, too.
Vamp Julia, who started a book club in Chicago, said in their club, the host always picked the book they read that month, something which Vamp Robin said her book club in Saratoga Springs does, too. As far as the discussions go, you can usually find questions in the back of the book or online, on either the book or author’s website. When the group is still new the questions may be more needed than after a couple of books when everyone is more comfortable with each other.
The host should provide appropriate food and beverages for the group, depending on when your book club meets, or you can decide to have potlucks. (Several Vamps suggested having plenty of wine on hand!)
